Andrew Bird
Andrew Bird’s brand of eclectic indie-folk makes use of multitrack recorders, loop pedals, guitar, glockenspiel, keyboard, whistling, and his signature instrument, the violin. After six studio albums, including 2012’s Break It Yourself, his sound continues to progress, even in the middle of a concert. Bird is known to improvise and rework his songs during a live performance. He has also collaborated with several musicians on a variety of projects, including Dark Was The Night for the Red Hot Organization, Twistable Turnable Man: A Musical Tribute to Shel Silverstein, and The Muppets: Original Soundtrack.
Amadou & Mariam
Amadou and Mariam met in Mali’s Institute for the Young Blind and found they shared an interest in music. Since pairing up, the duo has produced music that mixes traditional Mali sound with rock guitars, Syrian violins, Cuban trumpets, Egyptian nay, Indian tablas and Dogon percussion. Their eighth album Folila was released April 2, 2012. Folila, which means “music” in Bambara, was recorded in Bamako and New York with special guests including Santigold, TV On The Radio, and Jake Shears from Scissor Sisters.
