Wilco
With a stylistically diverse catalog, Wilco has been, as Rolling Stone put it, “consistently interesting.” A critic from the New York Times said that Wilco has a style that “reached back to proven materials: the twang of country, the steady chug of 1960s rock, the undulating sheen of the Beach Boys, the honky-tonk hymns of the Band, and the melodic symmetries of pop.” The band has 9 studio albums under their belt, with several collaborations including Feist and Beck. Their latest album, The Whole Love was released September 2011.
Blitzen Trapper
This Portland, Oregon band has been making music since 2000, merging indie rock, alt-country, and folk, but Blitzen Trapper reached a new level of success with their 2008 album Furr. The album was ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the best albums of the year, and the title track was on the magazine’s Best Singles of 2008. Since then, they have release two more studio albums, the most recent being 2011’s American Goldwing.
