As a participating institution in the Center for Plant Conservation (CPC), Red Butte Garden researchers are helping to save more than a dozen species of rare and endangered plants in Utah and the Great Basin. This work involved both field studies to determine the distribution and "health" of existing populations, as well as the maintenance of germplasm (seeds and cuttings) of each species.
You can help save a rare plant in Utah!
Plant sponsorships establish a permanent fund whose proceeds ensure sustained progress for recovery of the most imperiled plants in the country. A $10,000 sponsorship supports an annual income to the institution responsible for the plant species. Of the 18 CPC species at Red Butte Garden, only 2 are fully endowed. The Center accepts gifts for plant sponsorship in any amount. If you or a group in your area would like to conduct a sponsorship campaign to fully sponsor a rare plant, please contact Rita Dodge at (801) 585-5853, or rita.dodge@redbutte.utah.edu
