Red Butte Garden is a special place within our community. With peaceful floral walks and incredible mountain vistas, the Garden is a beautiful setting for honoring special people in our lives.
Whether you would like to celebrate a birthday, an anniversary, or a lifetime of achievement, Red Butte Garden's Memorial and Tribute Program is a heartfelt way to show your appreciation. There are three ways you may participate: Give a gift of general support, dedicate a tree, or place a plaque on a bench to honor a loved one.
All gifts to the Memorial and Tribute Program are acknowledged with cards of appreciation to the honored individual, their family, or designated contact. We will also note your gift in our quarterly newsletter and our annual report.
Listed below are current Memorial and Tribute Opportunities available at Red Butte Garden.
General Gift of Support
Tribute and memorial gifts to support Red Butte Garden may be given at any level. Donations directly support the continued maintenance of the Garden's plantings and education programs. Both the donor and honoree (or designated contact) will receive acknowledgement cards.
All memorial and tribute gifts given at $100 and above will be listed in the Garden's "Book of Life". The Book of Life, located in the Garden Visitor Center, lists by year, all honorees and donors who have chosen to remember their loved ones in this way.
Gifts of general support may be given in person, over the phone at (801) 585-3813, or online.
Memorial Bench and Tree Dedications
With all the gifts listed below, free admission to the Garden is provided to friends and family members attending the dedication ceremony. In addition, one complimentary one-year Garden membership is given to the surviving spouse, children or other designee of the family or donor.
Tree Dedication $2,500
With a gift of $2,500, a tree will be dedicated in the name of a special person in your life. Many planting sites for a wide variety of trees are available throughout the Garden. A horticulturalist and development team member will help you select a tree and/or planting site. For aesthetic reasons, we limit the number of plaques in the Garden. Trees do not receive a plaque; instead, the name of the honoree will be listed in the Garden's Book of Life and on our Memorial and Tribute map. Trees will be dedicated for the natural life of the tree, if a tree dies within two years of planting, the tree will be replaced at no additional cost.
Wooden Garden Bench $7,500*
For a gift of $7,500 a wooden garden bench (typically teak) may be dedicated in honor of a loved one for a period of ten (10) years. Each bench includes a small plaque that may be engraved with words reflecting the tribute. You, other family members, or friends have the option of extending the dedication beyond ten (10) years at a cost of $500.00 per additional year. Bench style and location is chosen by the Garden Design Committee and may not be altered or moved.
Stone Bench $15,000*
If you prefer we will place a stone bench in the Garden for a gift of $15,000. Stone benches are typically made of granite and include a small plaque that may be engraved with words reflecting the tribute. The duration of a stone bench memorial is twenty (20) years. You, other family members, or friends have the option of extending the dedication beyond 20 years at a cost of $500.00 per additional year. The bench style and location is chosen by the Garden Design Committee and may not be altered or moved.
Conversation Area $50,000*
The Garden Master Plan includes several areas throughout the Garden that can be made into intimate "conversation" areas. By creating a design consistent with the Garden's master plan, our Landscape Architect and Design Committee will create a unique setting to honor your loved one. Each conversation area will be dedicated for a period of thirty (30) years. You, other family members, or friends have the option of extending the dedication beyond 30 years at a cost of $1,500 per additional year.
Sandstone Engraving in the Courtyard - $100,000
For lifetime unrestricted general operating support and endowment gifts that total $100,000 or more, you may be recognized on one of our sandstone floral tiles in our courtyard. The number of stones and types of flowers are limited
.
*If the donor chooses not to rededicate the bench or conversation area, the bench's plaque will be entered into the Garden's historical memorial plaque collection/display and the area will be available for another dedication. The Garden reserves the right to move or relocate benches and reconfigure or relocate conversation garden areas in the future if and when gardens are renovated or redesigned.
