Many students of Red Butte Garden will remember our local artist, Mary Lou Romney, who spent seventeen years assisting in the design, implementation and promotion of the gardens as they first began. Her Sego Lilly fountain design is the prominent display upon entering the gardens and stands 10 feet in diameter and is cut from varying shades of marble. The plaza is surrounded with red sandstone benches which include her wildflower drawings etched into the stone. In Mary Lou’s diary she states that the display of 42 pieces of her art at the Red Butte Gardens Art Show was the crowning achievement of her career in 1994, just a few years before her passing.
Join with Mary Lou’s daughter, Mary Anne Romney, in a joint display of fine art. Mary Lou’s finest botanical pieces will be displayed in miniature side-by-side with Mary Anne’s modern techniques. For those who knew Mary Lou, you will be delighted to see the influence that growing up around her mom has produced in her daughter’s work. The delight in capturing beauty carries on.
Meet the artist reception: March 16, 2-5pm and March 23, 2-5pm
