Medeski Martin & Wood
The trio’s amalgam of jazz, funk, “avant-noise” and a million other musical currents is nearly impossible to classify, which is just how they like it. Medeski’s keyboard excursions, Chris Wood’s hard-charging bass lines and Billy Martin’s supple, danceable beats have come to resemble a single organism, moving gracefully between genre-defying compositions and expansive improvisation atop a relentless groove. Medeski Martin & Wood have been on their musical adventure for two decades, but continue to write new music. Martin explains, “Musically, we’re changing all the time,” adding that the band is constantly improvising and surprising even themselves.
John Scofield's Uberjam Band
John Scofield's guitar work has influenced jazz since the late 1970’s and is going strong today. Possessor of a very distinctive sound and stylistic diversity, Scofield is a masterful jazz improviser whose music generally falls somewhere between post-bop, funk edged jazz, and R & B. He has led his own groups in the international jazz scene, recorded over 30 albums as a leader, and continued to keep an open musical mind.
