A material list will be sent to all registrants.
Cacti are botanical subjects that present all kinds of fun perspective challenges! Join Marjorie Leggitt in this intermediate-level art course as she guides you to create a colorful composition of a cactus of your choice.
This workshop begins with an introduction by Eddy Dawson, Director of Programs and Botanist at Red Butte Garden. Learn about cactus morphology and the various species found in the Water Conservation Garden.
Using a species list provided by the Garden, select your own cacti to draw. Marjorie will help you to discover how these succulents conform to basic geometric forms and mathematical patterns ubiquitous in the plant world. Then follow along with exercises that hone your observation and artistic skills as you develop a linear perspective drawing. Learn about the principles of cast shadows from your own clay model then add them to your drawing for spatial dimension. Combining watercolor and graphite have fun creating a final cactus portrait.
ZOOM link will be sent via email the day before classes start.
