We are in the midst of May and the middle of spring, and the Garden is gorgeous.

Woodland Strawberry (Fragaria vesca)

This groundcover has white flowers that mature into small red strawberries.

Japanese Barberry (Berberis thunbergii var. atropurpurea 'Royal Cloak')

The colors of this shrub's leaves and flowers provide a vibrant contrast against itself.

Upright Wild Ginger (Saruma henryi)

This flower is always a fun sight to see! It is a perennial native to Central China, and not to be confused with the edible Ginger (Zingiber officinale), as all parts of Saruma are poisonous. It is the only species in its genus and can be found in the Medicinal Garden.

Texas Red Oak (Quercus texana)

These are the flowers of one of the beautiful oaks that greet you as you enter the Garden. They are wind pollinated.

Burkwood Viburnum (Viburnum x burkwoodii)

Your nose won't be able to miss this shrub's lovely aromatic flowers as you pass by.
