Fall at Red Butte Garden is an impressive display where the foothills burst into a vibrant canvas of color, showcasing fiery maples, golden oaks, and the rich golden hues of native grasses. Beyond the stunning foliage and late-season blooms like asters and chrysanthemums, the garden offers a unique setting to explore and enjoy cooler weather activities. It’s the perfect time to witness the landscape's final, dazzling display before winter arrives.

Aster novae-angliae 'Purple Dome' (Purple Dome New England Aster)
This beautiful compact aster can be found in the Courtyard and Fragrance Gardens.

Sorbus alnifolia (Korean Mountain Ash)
Fall brings out a look in these leaves that make them look like they have been kissed by a flame.

Scabiosa atropurpurea 'Black Knight' (Black Knight Pincushion Flower)
These flowers are so deep red, they look almost black.

Schizachyrium scoparium (Little Bluestem)
This Utah native grass turns shades of copper and red in the fall.

Amelanchier canadensis (Canadian Serviceberry)
Serviceberries have something showy most of the year. Flowers in spring, fruits in summer, followed by gorgeous fall color.

Toxicodendron rydbergii (Western Poison Ivy)
Looking for something beautiful to plant in that dry shady spot in your yard? How about poison ivy? This underutilized Utah native will...just kidding. We don't really recommend this plant, but you should keep an eye out for it while hiking around our foothills on your next fall hike.
