As the temperatures slowly warm and our plants wake from their winter sleep, fragrant blossoms fill the air with intoxicating aromas and the buzz of bees signal that spring is definitely here.
Cayuga Koreanspice Viburnum (Viburnum 'Cayuga')
One of the most fragrant shrubs at the Garden, Koreanspice viburnums are sometimes called Snowball Bush.
Sutherland Gold Elderberry (Sambucus racemosa 'Sutherland Gold')
This cultivar of our native elderberry boasts beautiful chartreuse foliage and sweetly scented flowers.
Cutleaf Lilac (Syringa x laciniata)
This unique lilac produces fragrant purple flowers atop fascinating dissected leaves.
Gwen's Buffalo Currant (Ribes aureum var. villosum 'Gwen's Buffalo')
This golden currant variety not only produces large, sweet, black fruits, but in spring its flowers are strongly clove-scented.
Yankee Doodle Lilac (Syringa vulgaris 'Yankee Doodle')
Like all lilacs, these beautiful flowers emit a sweet scent reminiscent of jasmine.
Next time you're at the Garden, take a moment to appreciate our incredible collection of fragrant flowers and see if you can discover your own favorites.
