Field Trip Options

How To Request & Availability

Field Trips for the 2024-2025 school year will be open for request on August 1st at 10 AM. Check back in late July for more information on how to request a field trip and view our availability calendar.

To request a Partnership Red Butte Garden Field Trip + Field Investigation + NHMU click HERE.

  • Review the Field Trip Options and select one for your group.
  • Review this PDF to know how fill out the request form.
  • Select the time and date from our Field Trip Calendar. Fall times begin in September and go through October. Click to April + May for Spring 2025 times.
  • Complete the Request Form.
    • If you finish the request and are met with an error message your selected time slot has been reserved by another group. You will have to return to the calendar to select a new time slot and submit another request.
  • Look out for a confirmation request from fieldtrips@redbutte.utah.edu. Confirmed reservations are required. Confirmed reservations may take up to two weeks.

Field Trip Options

(DIY) Do It Yourself Red Butte Garden Field Trip

Make Red Butte Garden your classroom for the day with your K - 12th grade students!

  • Offered to all school groups and is our only current offering for Kindergarten and 7th - 12th grade groups.
  • DIY Field Trips have 5 time slots a week. We have one time slot on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, with two time slots on Fridays during our season in April + May and September + October.
  • Field trips are led by school chaperones and teachers.
  • DIY Field Trips include maps for chaperones and options for printable student journals that are appropriate for K - 6th grade students.
  • Includes passes for adult chaperones and teachers to return to Red Butte Garden at no cost.
  • We require 1 adult chaperone for every 5 students. Required chaperones receive free admission.

*Field Trip reservations are 2 hours.

Red Butte Garden Field Trip + Field Investigation

Explore Red Butte Garden with your students and embark on a SEEd aligned science investigation!

  • Red Butte Garden Field Trip + Field Investigations are currently offered to 1st - 6th grade groups with grade specific investigations aligned to Utah's SEEd Standards.
  • These trips are offered on Thursdays with two time slots available during our season in April + May and September + October.
  • Field trips are led by school chaperones and teachers.
  • Garden Educators are stationed throughout the garden with grade specific SEEd aligned activities to support the investigation.

  • Materials are provided by Red Butte Garden at the beginning of a trip and include:
    • Investigation specific science field journals and pencils for students
    • Chaperone packs with maps and tools
    • Passes for adult chaperones and teachers to return to Red Butte Garden at no cost
  • We require 1 adult chaperone for every 5 students. Required chaperones receive free admission.

*Field Trip reservations are 2 hours.

Partnership Red Butte Garden Field Trip + Field Investigation + NHMU

We partner with the Natural History Museum of Utah for full day field trips. To learn more about the partnership field trip experience, please visit HERE.

  • Partnership Field Trips are offered to all school groups.
  • Partnership Field Trips are offered on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays during our shared season in April + May and September + October.
  • Field trips are led by school chaperones and teachers.
  • The Field Investigations at Red Butte Garden are offered to 1st - 6th grade groups. Kindergarten and 7th - 12th grade groups will have a DIY Field Trip at Red Butte Garden. To learn more about DIY Field Trips click HERE.
    • The Field Investigations have Garden Educators stationed throughout the garden with grade specific SEEd aligned activities to enhance the investigation.
      • Click HERE to learn more about the field investigations.
      • Materials are provided by Red Butte Garden at the beginning of a trip and include:
        • Investigation specific science field journals and pencils for students
        • Chaperone packs with maps and tools
        • Passes for adult chaperones and teachers to return to Red Butte Garden at no cost
  • We require 1 adult chaperone for every 5 students. Required chaperones receive free admission.

*Field Trip reservations are typically ~1.5 hours - 2 hours at each facility depending on grade level. It is a full day field trip with lunch reservations at NHMU.
