When checking in at Red Butte Garden, campers will meet in the Red Butte Garden Visitor Center parking lot.

Calling all Guardians! From Thor’s lightning to the Torch’s fire, explore how different superpowers are saving or hurting our ecosystems. Discover how your favorite hero can help rescue the plants and animals around you. Using our newfound knowledge we will create our own superheroes, embracing the power within us to author the future of our natural world.

Calling all artists! Explore the world of art this week at camp as you paint, draw, and sculpt your way across the Garden. In addition to learning the basics of line, shape, color, and texture, you’ll also create stencil portraits, sculpt found object statues, paint pointillism murals, and more. End the week with a gallery stroll to showcase the incredible art you make.

Get ready for an adventure! Spend Monday through Thursday at Red Butte Garden where campers will spend time with representatives from both organizations. While at the Garden you’ll learn how to survive in the wild as you explore the basics of navigation, learn to identify safe and useful plants, discover how to make a shelter, and other valuable survival skills. With Clark Planetarium you will learn about the extreme environments found in outer space and what astronauts have to do in order to survive. On Friday you will spend the day at Clark Planetarium, where campers will learn night sky navigation techniques in the planetarium dome.

Partner Camp with Tanner Dance
From Bigfoot to Zeus, explore myths and legends from around the world with Tanner Dance and Red Butte Garden. Spend mornings at the Garden discovering the plants and animals featured in popular mythology. In the afternoon you’ll walk to Tanner Dance and learn about myths and legends through dance, drama, and other art forms. End the week with a special performance at Tanner Dance showcasing all you’ve learned.
Transportation between sites provided.

Seeds, Science, and Storytelling: Oh My!
Partner camp with Spy Hop & Wasatch Community Gardens
Week 1 (July 8 – 12):
Spend your mornings at Spy Hop, where you will create clay characters and bring them to life. You’ll learn basic stop-motion animation as well as camera and editing techniques.
Then, you’ll head to Wasatch Community Gardens’ Campus Teaching Garden to experiment with local foods, explore a garden ecosystem, and connect with the planet.

Week 2 (July 15 – 19):
For your second week, you’ll spend each morning learning the art of filmmaking as you create short, fast infomercials based on real and imaginary products. You’ll learn camera basics and editing software to bring your advertisement to life!
Then, travel to Red Butte Garden where you will become a culinary scientist as you discover the science of cooking. Spend the afternoons practicing essential kitchen skills like chopping, mixing, and blending, as you learn why onions make you cry, how bread rises, why fruit browns, and more. You’ll also harvest fresh ingredients from the Garden, decorate a chef’s apron, and compile a camp cookbook.

Spend Monday through Thursday at Red Butte Garden where campers will spend time with representatives from both organizations. With Red Butte you’ll discover how you can help improve the environment through recycling, composting, and water conservation, as you explore the Garden, create a reusable lunch bag, build your own countertop compost bin, and more. With Clark Planetarium, campers will learn about our planet from the perspective of outer space, the technology used to study the entire planet, and how rare a truly habitable planet is. On Friday, you’ll get to spend the whole day at the Planetarium, checking out the planetarium dome and much more.

Calling all story tellers! Join our very own BOOtanical storyteller Ginger, here at summer camp! You will learn to tell two stories, a folktale and a story you create. Wander through the Garden as you learn storytelling methods and build your performative confidence through games and play. On Friday, perform your story in the Garden for friends and family. Join us for a week of tales, laughter, and creativity, and let your stories blossom.
