Learn how to multiply your favorite plants, preserve cherished varieties, and expand your garden with ease. Whether it’s your grandmother’s beloved rose or a hardy fruit tree, this class will teach you the basics of propagation and grafting.

What You’ll Learn:

Propagation by Cuttings: Step-by-step guidance on taking and rooting cuttings to grow new plants.

Dividing Perennials: When and how to divide plants like irises and hostas to create more.

Grafting Basics: Combine the best traits of plants, like improving fruit trees or preserving heirlooms.

Timing and Techniques: The best times of year to propagate and how to create ideal growing conditions.

This session includes demonstrations and practical tips to help you confidently propagate and graft at home. Whether you want to expand your garden, preserve special plants, or try something new, this class will give you the tools to succeed!

Get to Know Your Instructor:

James Batton is a consulting arborist, horticulturist, and local Youtube gardening host. Since 1979 he has worked in the landscape gardening field as a research assistant, estate gardener, greenskeeper, designer, arborist, and horticultural instructor. He has served as president of the Local Chapter of The International Society of Arboriculture, and consulted on many projects including City Creek's Landscape, Thanksgiving Point water features, and the Oregon Symphony's designers' showhouse. Come enjoy James' engaging storytelling style of teaching skills in the garden.
